The Rills are a stretch of rough country in the North, wedged between the Barrowlands, the Stony Shore, and the shore of Blazewater Bay. House Ryswell, horse-breeders by trade, rules over this difficult ground today, a lordship that once belonged to another line entirely.
Chapter 1
From the Ryders to the Ryswells

Before the Ryswells, the Rills answered to House Ryder, once petty kings of the North until the Starks brought them to heel as sworn vassals. That line eventually died out, and lordship over the Rills passed to the Ryswells, who hold it still.
One old story remembered here is that of the seventy-nine sentinels: a band of Night's Watch deserters sought shelter at the castle of the Ryswell lord of the time, who sent them back to the Wall instead of taking them in.
Closer to living memory, Brandon Stark often rode through this rough country, and on one such ride he met Barbrey Ryswell.

Spearmen for Ruby Ford
