Alester Florent
Alester Florent is the Lord of Brightwater Keep and head of House Florent during Robert Baratheon's reign.
When the War of the Five Kings breaks out, his loyalty shifts from the Tyrells to Stannis Baratheon, whom he later serves as Hand of the King.

Alester rules Brightwater Keep as head of his house. He is married to Melara Crane, with whom he has three children.
At a tourney, Denys Mallister unhorses him. Those who know him describe a tall, lean man with silver hair and a pointed beard, and consider him wealthy, courteous, and ambitious.
Chapter 2
From Renly to Stannis

When the war breaks out, Florent follows the Tyrells and backs Renly Baratheon as king at Highgarden. After Renly's death, he is among the first to switch to the cause of his older brother, Stannis.
He is also the first of Stannis's new lords to abandon the faith of the Seven for the worship of R'hllor. Once with Stannis, he briefly holds the post of Hand of the King.

The king's seal

After Stannis's defeat at the Battle of the Blackwater, Alester stays behind at Dragonstone with his niece, Queen Selyse Florent. Using the royal seal she gives him, he speaks in Stannis's name.
He also tries to open a reconciliation with the Lannisters after the defeat, and is imprisoned at Dragonstone for it. When Stannis, counseled by his new Hand, Davos Seaworth, decides to march for the Wall, Melisandre burns Alester alive at Dragonstone, seeking favorable winds for the journey north.
