Brightwater Keep
Aguasclaras
Brightwater Keep is a castle in the Reach, built near the source of the Honeywine. For generations it was the seat of House Florent, sworn to the Tyrells of Highgarden.
It gains weight in the story when the War of the Five Kings turns that Florent loyalty into a debt the castle has to pay.
Chapter 1
The price of loyalty
299 ACBooks only
House Florent had thrown its army and its banner behind Stannis Baratheon at the Blackwater. When the battle is lost, that support comes with a price: Brightwater Keep and the lands around it are stripped from the Florents.
The castle passes to Ser Garlan Tyrell, second son of Lord Mace Tyrell. It is as much a spoil of war as a new lordship: House Tyrell places one of its own in a stronghold that until then had never been theirs.
Chapter 2
Castellan in another man's keep
300 ACBooks only
Brightwater Keep remains, alongside Storm's End and Dragonstone, among the few places in the realm still holding for Stannis Baratheon. Garlan Tyrell is preparing to go and claim his new lordship.
Before he can, word arrives that the Shield Islands have fallen to the ironmen. Garlan gathers his army and marches to meet them, leaving Brightwater Keep for the moment in the hands of those already holding it: Ser Colin Florent stays on as castellan of a castle that no longer belongs to his house.
