Lord Farman was the Lord of Fair Isle and head of House Farman during the Dance of the Dragons, the civil war that split House Targaryen in two.
His name became tied to the Ironborn invasion of his lands, an episode that marked his family for generations.

The Fall of Faircastle

When the Dance of the Dragons shook the realm, Dalton Greyjoy, lord of the Iron Islands, brought his men to the shores of Fair Isle.
Lord Farman could not hold back the landing and shut himself inside Faircastle, from where he sent message after message begging for aid. None came, and in 130 AC the castle fell to the ironmen.
Chapter 2
Salt Wives, Ransom in Silver

The victor, known as the Red Kraken, took four of Lord Farman's daughters as salt wives, Lysa among them, and gave a fifth to his brother Veron Greyjoy.
In time, Lord Lannister of Casterly Rock paid for the freedom of Lord Farman and his sons: their weight in silver.
