Aelinor Penrose
Aelinor Penrose was queen of the Seven Kingdoms as the wife of King Aerys I Targaryen, a marriage remembered chiefly for its lack of an heir.
Her case tested the custom of setting aside a childless queen, a custom the king himself refused to follow.

The marriage without an heir

Aelinor was Aerys Targaryen's cousin when the two married. Aerys, though, refused to share her bed, and word soon spread that the marriage had never been consummated. The years passed without any child being born.
Every day she went to the Great Sept of Baelor to beg the Mother for a child.

When Aerys was made king of the Seven Kingdoms, his Privy Council blamed the lack of an heir on his distaste for Aelinor and urged him to set her aside and take another wife. The king ignored his councillors and kept the marriage.
