Lollys Stokeworth

Lollys Stokeworth is the younger daughter of Lady Tanda Stokeworth, mistress of a small holdfast near King's Landing. At the Lannister court she is thought slow-witted, a woman nobody pays much attention to — and that very indifference shapes everything that happens to her afterward.

From an overlooked girl on the fringes of court she ends up, by a route nobody would have predicted, at the head of her own house. Hers is the story of someone others decide for, until she isn't.

Chapter 1

The younger daughter of Stokeworth

265 AC

Lollys is born in 265, the younger of Lady Tanda Stokeworth's two daughters; her sister Falyse is some years older. Few at court bother to know her — they call her "Lollys the Slow" or "Lollys the Dim," and take her for simple, timid, and easily led. She is heavyset, dark-eyed, and still unmarried well into her thirties, unusual for a highborn daughter.

Chapter 2

Joffrey's court

In this chapterTyrion LannisterVarys

When war breaks out with the North, Lollys stays behind in King's Landing, at young King Joffrey's court. She attends his nameday tourney with her mother and sister, and Lady Tanda, convinced Tyrion Lannister would make a good match for her, hounds him constantly with the idea.

She is among those who go down to the harbor to see Princess Myrcella off on her voyage to Dorne. On the way back to the Red Keep the crowd turns on the royal party: Lollys is pulled from her horse and dragged behind a tanner's tent, where several dozen men assault her. She is later found wandering the streets, naked and pregnant.

After the attack she barely dares leave her rooms. Varys uses that fear to place Shae, Tyrion's secret lover, in the room as Lollys's new handmaid, on the pretext that the previous one had been stealing her jewelry.

Chapter 3

Maegor's Holdfast

When the Battle of Blackwater begins, Queen Cersei gathers the court ladies in Maegor's Holdfast for safety. Lollys refuses to cross the drawbridge: terrified, she struggles against her mother, sister, and handmaid, and it takes Falyse and Shae hauling her almost bodily to get her inside. Lady Tanda excuses her behavior to Sansa Stark as illness, though by then rumor already has it that Lollys is pregnant from the rape.

At the feast that follows she eats too fast and is sick over herself and Falyse. Once the battle ends in a Lannister victory, mother and daughters attend the court session that celebrates it.

Chapter 4

The arranged marriage

In this chapterBronn

Lollys attends Sansa Stark and Tyrion Lannister's wedding and cries through the whole ceremony. Afterward Shae stops serving her and becomes Sansa's handmaid instead; around this time, by Shae's own account, Lady Tanda has been giving Lollys dreamwine to help her sleep.

When Tyrion is arrested for Joffrey's murder, he sends for the sellsword Bronn to stand as his champion in a trial by combat. Bronn comes, but reluctantly — he is to marry Lollys in two days. Tyrion tries to talk him out of it, pointing out that Lollys is simple, carries another man's bastard, and isn't even Stokeworth's heir — but Bronn answers that she'll soon enough be carrying his own child, and that her sister Falyse is childless and might not outlive their mother. Tyrion realizes then that Cersei arranged the marriage to strip him of an ally, and has nothing to match a noble wife and a castle.

Chapter 5

Lady of Stokeworth

In this chapterTywin Lannister

Too far along in her pregnancy to travel, Lollys stays at Stokeworth with her mother during Lord Tywin Lannister's funeral. She gives birth to a son; Cersei forbids her to name him Tywin, so Bronn names him Tyrion instead, after the queen's brother.

Cersei suspects the name means Bronn knows where Tyrion is hiding, and conspires with Falyse and her husband, Ser Balman Byrch, to have Bronn killed. The plan goes wrong: Bronn kills Balman and banishes Falyse from Stokeworth. Falyse flees to King's Landing for Cersei's protection, but Cersei hands her over to Qyburn for his experiments instead, to bury the conspiracy.

Lady Tanda dies not long after of a chill caught following a broken hip. Lollys then becomes Lady of Stokeworth, and Bronn starts calling himself Lord Stokeworth.
