Bronn

At the Inn at the Crossroads, Bronn and a fellow sellsword named Chiggen run into Catelyn Tully as she asks for men to help seize Tyrion Lannister, suspected of the attack on her son Bran. Both take the pay and join her party crossing the Mountains of the Moon.

The journey costs them. Hill clansmen attack by night; Bronn loses his horse but keeps fighting with a sword in each hand, killing several of the raiders, and takes Jyck's fine boots off his body when he falls. In a second attack Chiggen is mortally wounded, and Bronn quietly finishes him off, letting Lady Catelyn believe he died of his wounds. It's on this stretch of road that his bond with Tyrion begins.

At the Eyrie, when Tyrion demands trial by combat, Bronn offers himself as champion and kills Ser Vardis Egen, castellan of the fortress. From then on he serves Tyrion, crossing the mountains with him once again.

The night before the Battle of the Green Fork, Bronn brings a whore named Shae to Tyrion's tent. The next day he fights in the battle, then travels with Tyrion on to King's Landing.

In King's Landing, Bronn becomes captain of Tyrion's personal guard, wearing the crimson Lannister cloak and the black breastplate of the City Watch. He'll take any job that pays: recruiting sellswords, moving through the Red Keep, learning its intrigues. When Ser Alliser Thorne brings a rotting hand to the capital, Bronn mocks it without hesitation.

While Tyrion meets Shae at Chataya's brothel, Bronn takes up with a Dornish girl there. After the Battle of Oxcross, King Joffrey orders the Kingsguard to beat Sansa Stark, and Tyrion sends Bronn and Timett to guard her. Soon after, Bronn shields Tyrion during the riot that breaks out in the city.

When Stannis Baratheon's army attacks King's Landing, Bronn is put in charge of the great chain that seals off Blackwater Bay, the move that tips the Battle of the Blackwater in Joffrey's favor. For his part in it he's knighted, and from then on he's known as Bronn of the Blackwater, bearing a burning green chain on a smoke-grey field.

Now a knight, Bronn presents himself to a still-recovering Tyrion in fine boots, a wool doublet, and a pale green silk cloak. He leaves behind the cheap brothels he used to frequent and starts visiting Chataya's on his own coin. He also looks into Ser Mandon Moore, the man who tried to kill Tyrion during the Battle of the Blackwater, and attends the wedding of Tyrion and Sansa Stark.

Tyrion has him quietly kill Symon, who had tried to blackmail him, and Bronn does it. Together with Podrick Payne, he accompanies Tyrion when he meets Prince Oberyn Martell's retinue.

After Joffrey's death, Tyrion asks him to be his champion in the trial by combat against Gregor Clegane, and Bronn refuses. Through Cersei Lannister's maneuvering, he ends up marrying Lollys Stokeworth, a noblewoman left pregnant after being raped by a number of men in the city.

Lollys gives birth to the child born of those rapes, and Bronn chooses to name him Tyrion. The gesture convinces Queen Cersei that he remains loyal to the real Tyrion.

Cersei then conspires with Falyse Stokeworth, Lollys's sister, to have her husband, Ser Balman Byrch, arrange a fatal accident for Bronn. Byrch instead challenges him to single combat; Bronn forces a confession of the plot out of him and kills him, stabbing him in the eye when he begs for mercy.

Bronn throws Lady Falyse out of the castle, and she ends up among Qyburn's experiments. With Ser Balman dead, Bronn names himself Lord Protector of Stokeworth, a claim resting on his wife's new position as Lady of the castle.
