Lollys Stokeworth was raped by some fifty men during the revolt that shook King's Landing, and that was how she became pregnant, with no way of knowing who the father was.

She gave birth in Stokeworth in the year 300, during the funeral of Lord Tywin Lannister, so she and her mother, Lady Tanda, stayed behind at the castle instead of attending.

Falyse Stokeworth told Queen Cersei that Lady Tanda had asked whether the baby was a boy and whether he could be named Tywin; offended by what she saw as an insult to her father's memory, Cersei refused. When the boy was born healthy, it was the sellsword Bronn who named him: Tyrion. Ser Jaime Lannister found the joke amusing, but Cersei was furious at the insolence.

Cersei suspected the name was no accident, but a hint that Bronn knew where her brother Tyrion Lannister was hiding after Tywin's death, and she plotted with Falyse and her husband Ser Balman Byrch to kill the sellsword. The plot failed: Bronn killed Balman and drove Falyse out of Stokeworth. When she fled to Cersei in terror, the queen handed her over to Qyburn for his experiments, silencing the matter for good.

Lady Tanda died shortly afterward of a chill worsened by a broken hip, and Lollys became Lady of Stokeworth; from then on Bronn styled himself Lord Stokeworth.

It has been suggested that Tyrion should bear the surname 'Waters,' given to highborn bastards born in the Crownlands, but the Spanish text of A Feast for Crows names him only as Tyrion, with no surname; it first appears in the appendix of A Dance with Dragons, as Curtidor. In the original English edition he is called Tyrion Tanner, a surname drawn from the place where his mother was assaulted, behind a tanner's tent.
