Matthos Seaworth

Matthos Seaworth was the third son of Davos Seaworth, a smuggler turned knight in the service of Stannis Baratheon. He served as second-in-command aboard his father's ship, the Black Betha, hoping one day to captain a vessel of his own.

Chapter 1

Second-in-command

In this chapterDavos Seaworth

Matthos was the third of Davos and Marya Seaworth's sons, and sailed as second-in-command aboard the Black Betha, the ship his father commanded. He shared her deck with his brothers, among them Allard, under the same captain's orders.

What he wanted was not to take over command of the Black Betha, but to captain a ship of his own one day.

Chapter 2

The Battle of the Blackwater

299 AC

In this chapterImry Florent

When Ser Imry Florent assigned the fleet's positions, he placed Davos and his sons' ships in the second line, on the more exposed starboard flank. Allard, one of the brothers, took it as a mark of trust; Davos, though, knew it was the most dangerous post. Matthos and his other brothers watched their father's unease with a measure of pity, without fully sharing it.

During the battle Matthos fought aboard the Black Betha. Wildfire struck the ship and sank her; Matthos died that night in the waters of the Blackwater.
