House Burley
Clan Burley
House Burley is a small mountain clan of the North, without a seat of its own among the peaks where the White Knife rises, sworn to whoever holds Winterfell. Their chief bears the title of the Burley.
They are rarely mentioned in the chronicles, but when they are, it is fighting in the realm's wars.
Chapter 1
The knife of the mountains
Books only
High in the mountains of the North, where the White Knife rises, lives a clan that carries a blade on its own banner: a white knife over an inverted blue pile on a field of silver. Semi-canonical sources attribute the design to those same mountains.
Their chief is simply called the Burley, though at Winterfell he is given the courtesy of a lord. No source credits them with a keep of their own.
Chapter 2
The archer with a familiar name
Books only
During the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war, House Blackwood's finest archer was a man named Billy Burley. Whether he had any relation to this clan or the name is mere coincidence is not recorded; the chronicles say nothing more about him.
Chapter 3
The rearguard at the Ruby Ford
Books only
At the Battle of the Ruby Ford, most of the clan's men were still on the south bank when Lannister forces under Gregor Clegane struck those who had not yet crossed the river. The losses were heavy.
