House Crowl of Deepdown
Clan Crowl de Deepdown
House Crowl rules Deepdown, a settlement carved into the caves of Skagos, the rugged island north of the North itself. Like the other clans of the isle, they owe nominal fealty to the Boltons of the Dreadfort, though in practice they live beyond their reach.
Like the rest of Skagos's peoples, they keep to themselves and hold to their own customs, largely apart from the rest of the realm.

The caves of Deepdown
Books only
According to semi-canonical sources, the clan's sigil shows piles gules on a field of sable. The design is no accident: it is said to represent the stalactites and stalagmites of the cavern where Deepdown, the clan's seat, is built.
The Crowls acknowledge the Boltons of the Dreadfort as their overlords, but that fealty is more formal than real: like the rest of Skagos's clans, they are usually left to rule themselves.
Chapter 2
The forgotten watchman

The Crowls are one of the clans descended from the First Men who rule the island of Skagos. More than a thousand years ago, one of them rose to become Lord Commander of the Night's Watch — the clan's only recorded mark beyond their island.
