Lorath Island

Lorath Island is the largest of three islands — with some twenty smaller ones scattered around them — that make up the archipelago off the eastern coast of Essos where one of the nine Free Cities stands.
Beneath its stone labyrinths, raised by hands nobody has ever identified, lies a history of kingdoms wiped out long before the city that now bears its name ever existed.
Chapter 1
The Lorath archipelago

The island is the largest of three that make up a small archipelago off the eastern coast of Essos, ringed by another twenty or so smaller islets. The city of Lorath occupies only its western shore, clinging to the rocks under battering storms, and commands the mouth of the bay that carries its name.
Lorassyon, the second-largest island, lies nearby; the Axe stretches away to the east, Braavos to the west. Downriver, at the mouth of the Sarne, the Lorathi keep an outpost of their own at Morosh.
Chapter 2
The kings who emptied it

Long before any city stood here, unknown builders raised the stone piles and labyrinths on these rocks that still stand today, both on the islands and in parts of the nearby mainland. Hairy men resembling the people of Ibben came next, and later the Andals, who split the archipelago into several kingdoms, one to an island.
A king named Qarlon the Great eventually united them all under his crown and marched his armies into Essos, but Norvos and the Valyrian Freehold allied to bring him down: the Cleansing of Lorath razed his kingdom and left the islands empty. That blank page is why Lorathi today can't trace their line back to any of those older peoples.
