Ronald Connington

When his cousin Jon left for King's Landing, he put Ronald in charge of Griffin's Roost, naming him castellan in his absence.

The post became permanent soon after: once Aerys II Targaryen removed Jon from his position as Hand of the King, he handed the castle over to Ronald outright.

Ronald had three children, Ronnet, Raymund and Alynne, who would carry the Connington name into the next generation.

When Robert's Rebellion broke out, Ronald sided with the rebels.

Once the war ended, the new king let him keep his lands, though reduced, and stripped him of his lordship, leaving him a mere knight.

Ronald sought to marry his eldest son, Ronnet, to Brienne Tarth, heiress of Lord Selwyn Tarth of the island of Tarth. Ronnet balked: he'd heard how plain the girl was said to be and wanted nothing to do with the match.

Despite his son's refusal, Ronald held firm and sent him to Tarth to meet her. Ronnet made the trip, but told Brienne outright, the moment he arrived, that he had no intention of marrying her.

It was Ronnet who eventually inherited the title of Knight of Griffin's Roost from Ronald.
