Blue Fork

The clean water that gives the river its name comes from the rains that soak the Riverlands every spring. Long before the Seven Kingdoms existed, Tristifer IV Mudd ruled his lands from Oldstones, a castle built right on its bank.

In time the river changed hands in a different way. Harwyn Hoare, lord of the Iron Islands, landed with a hundred longships south of Varamar and pushed inland along the current; his men worked their way up the region's waterways until they tore the land from the Storm King Arrec Durrandon, and the decisive blow of that campaign fell near Fairmarket.

The river also left its mark on a name: a hedge knight came to call himself Ser Pate of the Blue Fork.

When war broke out, Robb Stark's army skirted the source of the Blue Fork on its way to the Whispering Wood.

Months later, as the northern host marched down from Riverrun toward the Twins for the wedding of Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey, the rains swelled the river until they tore out the bridge at Fairmarket. The column had to swing around by Pantano de la Bruja and Sevenstreams to get across.

After the Red Wedding, Merrett Frey set out for Oldstones carrying the ransom demanded for his half-brother's grandson. The Brotherhood without Banners was waiting for him there, and neither he nor the other Frey riding with him came out of it alive.

Later still, Lucias Vypren and Black Walder Frey picked up that same Brotherhood's trail in the country around the river.
