Sack of Lannisport

Saqueo de Lannisport

The Sack of Lannisport was the opening blow of the Greyjoy Rebellion: Balon Greyjoy's brothers Euron and Victarion fell upon House Lannister's fleet while it lay moored in harbor and burned it to nothing.

Chapter 1

The fleet in flames

289 ACBooks only

Balon Greyjoy had crowned himself King of the Iron Islands, and his opening move in that war struck not a castle nor an army, but ships at anchor. Lannisport held House Lannister's fleet, and that fleet, so long as it remained whole, was the threat that could shut the ironborn out of the sea.

The plan came from Euron Greyjoy's mind, but the hand that carried it out belonged to his brother Victarion, Lord Captain of the Iron Fleet. They fell upon the harbor and put the Lannister ships to the torch before they could put to sea. No fleet was left to oppose them.

Chapter 2

The open sea

289 ACBooks only

With no Lannister fleet to close it, the sea lay open to the ironborn. With that freedom newly won, they struck at Seagard and turned to raiding the coast.
