Dacey Mormont

As Maege Mormont's eldest daughter, Dacey grew up destined to inherit Bear Island, home to her house's line of warrior women. As a child she was given a war mace, a gift that hinted at the life she would lead far from a lady's usual pursuits.

She was a tall woman, standing nearly six foot six, and moved as easily in breastplate and mail as she did in a gown at a dance. Her house's gate bore a carving of a woman in a bearskin, nursing a child on one arm and holding a battle-axe in the other; Dacey always loved that image, unladylike as it was.

When the North marched south against the Lannisters, Dacey rode with Robb Stark and earned a place as one of his battle companions. During the Battle of the Whispering Wood she was named the king's personal guard.

She and her mother, Lady Maege, were among the few women in the army, and that shared standing drew them close to Catelyn Stark, who found in them an understanding of a mother's grief she found nowhere else in camp. Dacey liked to say she had fought in every battle beside the Young Wolf, and that he had not lost one of them.

In 299 Dacey was among the northern lords who traveled to the Twins for the wedding of Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey. During the feast she danced with her king, and Ser Edwyn Frey's refusal to dance with her was one of the last signs of tension before the Freys turned on their guests.

When the killing began, Dacey managed to break free of Ser Benfrey Frey by throwing a wine jug in his face, but she could not escape: Ser Ryman Frey struck her down with an axe to the belly, and she died at the Twins.
