Death of Daenerys Targaryen

After burning King's Landing with dragonfire even though the city had already surrendered, Daenerys addresses her troops and declares that she has freed them, and that she will do the same for the rest of the world. Tyrion Lannister, who had defied her orders by freeing his brother Jaime, is arrested and charged with treason.

Arya Stark and Tyrion each seek out Jon Snow. They warn him that Daenerys will come to see his Targaryen blood as a threat to her rule, and that not even House Stark will be safe from her. Tyrion puts it plainly: however much Jon loves her, killing her is now the only way left to protect the people.

Jon finds Daenerys in the throne room and tries to talk her down. She won't budge: she insists that burning the city was the price of building a better world, and asks him to rule at her side. Torn between what he feels and what he has just heard, Jon ends up driving a dagger into her.

She fades in his arms while he breaks down in tears. Soon after, Drogon enters the hall, melts the Iron Throne with his breath, and carries his mother's body away, out of Westeros. Bran Stark will later be chosen king, and Jon is exiled once more to the Night's Watch, to appease those who had remained loyal to Daenerys.
