Sand Snakes coup
golpe de las Serpientes de Arena
The Sand Snakes' coup was the killing of Prince Doran Martell and his son Trystane at the hands of Ellaria Sand and Oberyn's daughters, who seized control of Dorne by force.
It was the violent answer of those who felt Doran had never made the Lannisters pay for the deaths of Elia Martell or Oberyn, and it left Dorne in Ellaria's hands.
Muchos en Dorne quieren la guerra. Pero he visto la guerra. He visto cuerpos amontonados en los campos de batalla. He visto huérfanos morir de hambre en las ciudades. No quiero llevar a mi gente a ese infierno.
Chapter 1
Blood in the Water Gardens
303 ACShow only
While walking through the Water Gardens leaning on Ellaria Sand, Doran admits he always envied his brother Oberyn's wandering life; she tells him he was always better suited to rule. The moment breaks when Maester Caleotte arrives with news of Myrcella Baratheon's death, and Doran realizes at once that Ellaria is behind the poisoning.
Before he can react, Tyene Sand stabs Captain Areo Hotah in the back, and Ellaria drives a knife into Doran's chest, holding it in place as he, in shock, tries to grab her and is pulled from his chair. She throws his inaction over Elia's and Oberyn's deaths back in his face while the palace guards, as unhappy with his rule as she is, stand and watch him bleed without stepping in.
Dying, Doran begs her to spare his son Trystane's life. Ellaria refuses: she has already ordered the Sand Snakes to kill him, one more step in a plan built to seize control of Dorne.
