House Frey of Riverrun
Casa Frey de Aguasdulces
House Frey of Riverrun is a young line in the Riverlands, a minor branch of House Frey of the Twins settled at Riverrun, the castle that once cradled House Tully. Its founder is a son of Lord Walder Frey who traded the waters of the Crossing for those of the Trident.
A vassal of House Baelish of Harrenhal, the house was born out of a redivision of land carried out during the War of the Five Kings, when the Iron Throne decided who would rule the riverlands' heart.

Riverrun changes hands

When House Tully lost Riverrun and its title for rising against the Iron Throne in the War of the Five Kings, the castle and its surrounding lands did not return to the crown: they passed to Ser Emmon Frey, one of the many sons of Lord Walder Frey of the Crossing. A new Frey branch was born, planted far from the Twins, in the very heart of the Trident.
The new house was placed under the authority of House Baelish of Harrenhal, made ruler of the riverlands by the king's own decision. Riverrun, an independent seat for generations, became a fief within a fief.
Chapter 2
The title that slipped away

Ser Emmon took it for granted that holding Riverrun would also bring him the title of Lord Paramount of the Trident, the authority the Tullys had once held over the whole river. It did not: that honor fell to Petyr Baelish, whom the crown had just named Lord of Harrenhal.
The mismatch made the new house's real place plain: master of a castle, but not of the region around it.
