House Slate of Blackpool is a vassal house of the Boltons in the North, descended from a line that once ruled as kings before bowing to the Starks.

Its more recent history is tied to the war that took Robb Stark south, and to the events that later unsettled Winterfell.

The Slates were once kings of the North. The Starks ended that reign and made them their vassals.

For a time after their defeat, the Slates ruled the Wolf's Den.

According to Lady Barbrey Dustin's account, House Slate rode with Robb Stark when he went to war, and lost men at the Red Wedding.

Before the war broke out, Maester Henly had served Lord Slate; in time he came to handle Winterfell's ravens and messages under Lord Roose Bolton.

The Slates were present at Winterfell when Ramsay Bolton married the girl presented as Arya Stark.
