Harroway

la Aldea de Lord Harroway

Lord Harroway's Town is a riverside settlement in the Riverlands, on the banks of the Trident, now held by House Roote. It takes its name from a house that no longer rules anywhere, the Harroways, and its streets have seen vengeful kings, a dragon, and travelers who only wanted to cross the river.

Chapter 1

A village without ambitions

Books only

The village, a settlement of House Roote, has a seven-sided sept, a two-story inn and a stone tower, and still carries the Harroway name even though nothing is left of that house.

The Kings of the Rivers never granted the permits that would have let it grow, the same as Salinas or Buenabasto; none of the three ever became a town.

Before the Trident overflowed, some seventy or eighty years before the War of the Five Kings, a boat could be taken from the Crossroads Inn that crossed the river to the village and went on toward Whitewalls.

Chapter 2

The purge of Harroway blood

Books only

After King Maegor I Targaryen had his wife, Queen Alys Harroway, and her father, Lord Lucas Harroway, executed, he marched first to Harrenhal and then to the village itself to hunt down anyone with Harroway blood.

The village then passed to Lord Alton Butterwell, and it was decreed that only the strongest knight among those living there would keep Harrenhal. Twenty-three men fought for that honor in its streets, and the winner was Ser Walton Torres.

Chapter 3

The dragon over the village

Books only

During the Dance of the Dragons, the river lords sided with Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, and that was enough for Prince Aemond Targaryen to descend on the village mounted on Vhagar.

Later on, House Butterwell lost the village, apparently over the Second Blackfyre Rebellion, and the lordship ended up in the hands of House Roote.

Chapter 4

Crossing the flooded village

Books only

By the time Sandor Clegane and Arya Stark reach the village, the rains have left it underwater from the flooded Trident, and they can only cross it by boat, on their way to Saltpans.

Later, Brienne of Tarth stops at the Crossroads Inn with septon Meribald, who afterward tries to cross the village on his own.
