Trident

The Trident takes shape from the joining of three currents, the Red Fork, the Green Fork and the Blue Fork, and is one of the longest and mightiest rivers in all of Westeros. Its waters cross much of the Riverlands before emptying into the Bay of Crabs.

In times of peace, travelling along the forks is faster than going by land. But there are only two crossings where one can pass from one bank to the other without a boat: Ruby Ford and the Twins.

The Red Fork runs wide and sluggish, full of bends that coil back on themselves, dotted with wooded islets, sandbars and driftwood caught in the current. Before reaching Riverrun the water darkens and the bed turns muddier. The lands of House Bracken stretch along this bank.

At the Fords of the Trident, one of the crossings on this fork, the battle that shares its name was fought. Further south, past the Inn of the Kneeling Man, the river widens further still and its banks become mud and reeds.

North of the Crossroads Inn, the Kingsroad runs alongside the Green Fork, through fertile valleys and woods, past villages and the castles of the river lords.

Past Ruby Ford — where Robert Baratheon won his crown in the battle that gave the Trident its name — there is no other crossing until the Twins, the seat of House Frey, where the current runs fast and deep.

The Blue Fork rises near Fairmarket and runs past Longtable, set upon its bank. Downstream it breaks into ever smaller branches that scatter beyond Sevenstreams.

To cross from one bank to the other along this stretch, one must travel from Sevenstreams to Witch's Bog, the only marked crossing on the whole fork.
