Gilbert of the Vines
Gilbert de las Vides
Gilbert of the Vines belongs to the legendary line that tradition credits to Garth Greenhand, and House Redwyne points to him as its origin.
His name survives chiefly through one skill: he is said to have given the people of the Arbor the secret of a sweet wine that would make the island famous.

Legend places Gilbert among the legendary sons of Garth Greenhand, the figure to whom numerous great houses of Westeros trace their line.

The sweet wine of the Arbor

Tradition credits him with one specific teaching: he showed the men of the Arbor how to turn into sweet wine the plump, glossy grapes that grew on the island.
From that, according to the legend, springs the wine-making fame that would later follow his house.
