Ryam Redwyne

Ryam was the youngest of three brothers, sons of Lord Manfryd Redwyne. In 50 AC he moved with his father and his older brothers, Robert and Rickard, to King's Landing, after King Jaehaerys I named Manfryd his Lord Admiral and Master of Ships.

Eight years later he rode in the tourney that marked the king's first decade on the throne. One by one he unhorsed his rivals — Ronnal Baratheon, Arthor Oakheart, Simon Dondarrion, Harys Hogg, and two knights of the Kingsguard itself, Lorence Roxton and Lucamore Strong. He won the tourney and crowned Alysanne Targaryen queen of love and beauty.

In 59 AC, after an illness known as the shivers killed several members of the Kingsguard, including Samgood of Colinmarsh and Victor the Valiant, Lord Commander Gyles Morrigen brought Ryam and Robin Shaw before Jaehaerys I, and both men swore the white cloak's vows.

Fourteen years later, in 73 AC, Ryam learned that his sworn brother Lucamore Strong had broken those vows: he had married three times in secret and fathered sixteen children. Ryam brought the matter to Gyles Morrigen, who was as furious as he was. Lucamore was gelded by his own brothers of the Kingsguard and sent to the Wall by the king's order.

At the King's Landing tourney of 98 AC, Ryam reached the final joust against Ser Clement Crabb. They broke thirty lances without either yielding, until Jaehaerys I himself named them joint champions. It was said to be the greatest joust the realm had seen.

When Septon Barth died in 99 AC, Jaehaerys I named Ryam his Hand. The choice did not go well: prized as a swordsman in the Kingsguard, he lasted less than a year as the king's counselor, and the realm remembers him as one of the worst Hands ever to sit beside a throne. Baelon, Jaehaerys's own son, took his place.

Ryam died in the service of Jaehaerys's grandson, King Viserys I. In King's Landing, where he had spent nearly all his life, his watch also came to an end. Ser Criston Cole took his place as a sworn brother of the Kingsguard, and Ser Harrold Westerling became the new Lord Commander.
