House Wensington
Casa Wensington
House Wensington is a noble family of the Stormlands and a bannerman house to House Baratheon. Its coat of arms bears the black stag also carried by the Baratheons and, before them, by the Durrandon kings, hinting at some tie to the lords of that region.
During the War of the Five Kings its banners followed one of the Baratheon claimants to the throne, and were seen as far away as the Wall.
Chapter 1
A Borrowed Stag
Books only
At the top of its coat of arms, House Wensington bears a black stag, the same beast that crowns the Baratheon banners and once marked the Durrandon kings before them. No source explains why the two houses share the device, but the coincidence suggests the house's founder descended from a lord of Storm's End or from an old King of the Storm.
The case would not be unique: something similar is said of the northern Karstarks, whose arms likewise echo a greater house they are presumed to descend from. Beyond the shield and the words Sound the Charge, nothing is recorded of who founded the house or when.
Chapter 2
Trumpets at the Wall
Books only
When Stannis Baratheon marched to the Wall to aid the Night's Watch, among the banners that followed him were the crossed trumpets of House Wensington. It appears that, before that, the house had declared for Renly Baratheon, the other brother claiming the crown.
After Stannis's defeat at the Battle of the Blackwater, it is believed the Wensingtons — some of their members, or the whole house — remained loyal to him rather than returning to serve at King's Landing. The saga gives no further word of them.
