Blackwood

Not to be confused with Blackwood (queen).

Blackwood was the son and heir of Lord Roderick Blackwood, Lord of Raventree Hall, at a time when the King of the Storm sought to bring the Riverlands under his house's rule.

His father's death in battle made him heir while still a boy, and that early orphaning would decide the fate of both his house and the wider region.

Chapter 1

The child heir

Books only

Arlan III Durrandon, King of the Storm, wanted to hand the rule of the Riverlands back to House Blackwood. The plan fell apart when Lord Roderick Blackwood died in the Battle of the Six Kings, leaving Raventree Hall's lordship with no adult at its head.

His son, heir to the title, was only eight years old when he lost his father. Arlan, moreover, did not trust the boy's uncles, which left the house's succession in a very weak position.

Chapter 2

A house without a lord

Books only

With the heir still a child, the other river lords refused to accept Shiera, Roderick's firstborn daughter, ruling in his place. Faced with that refusal, King Arlan chose to annex the Riverlands into his own kingdom rather than uphold the Blackwood lordship.

There is no certainty as to whether that boy ever ended up ruling Raventree Hall after his father's death.
