Tytos Blackwood

Tytos Blackwood is the lord of Raventree Hall and head of House Blackwood, one of the great families of the Trident.

A man of honor among the riverlords, he carries on a generations-old feud with House Bracken, his neighbors and old enemies. When the war for the Iron Throne breaks out, his name and his swords weigh heavily on who rules the Riverlands.

Chapter 1

The siege of Riverrun

Books only

Lord Tytos held Riverrun when the castle came under siege, defending it from within its walls with what remained of the riverlands' forces.

When the Lannister host camped outside, he led a sortie against those camps to bring Edmure Tully out alive. Once the fighting was won, he knelt beside Robb Stark before the heart tree in the godswood.

At the war council that followed, he urged joining forces with Roose Bolton and marching on Harrenhal. Soon after, he joined the other river lords in naming Robb Stark King in the North.

While he fought alongside the northern army, westermen forces put his own lands at Raventree Hall to the torch.

He had to leave Robb Stark's campaign to defend his home ground. He drove the Lannister forces out, but was left with nothing but ash and the castle itself.

He was one of seven lords who stood at Lord Hoster Tully's funeral, within the walls of Riverrun.

The last stronghold

Books only

After the Red Wedding, his old rivals, the Brackens, swore fealty to the Iron Throne and fell upon his lands.

When Riverrun fell, Raventree Hall became the last stronghold still loyal to the Starks left standing in the south.

Lord Karyl Vance asked Ser Jaime Lannister to lift the siege on the castle, knowing that Tytos would never yield to Jonos Bracken.

Chapter 4

The surrender of Raventree Hall

Books only

In this chapterWalder Frey

After refusing to surrender to Jonos Bracken, Tytos gave up the castle to Ser Jaime Lannister, ceding part of his lands to the Brackens and sending gold, silver, and his son Hoster as a hostage.

In his talk with Jaime, he recalled that Lord Walder Frey's fourth wife, Alyssa, had been born a Blackwood, though he warned that neither kinship nor guest right meant anything at the Twins.

His son Lucas had died at the Red Wedding, and he asked Jaime to have his bones returned so he could bury him properly. Jaime agreed, and as he rode away from Raventree Hall, he thought Tytos had more honor than Jonos Bracken.
