Roderick Blackwood
Roderick Blackwood was Lord of Árbol de los Cuervos and head of House Blackwood during the reign of the Kings of the Trident, when that region was not yet bound together under a single ruling house.
His clash with the crown over the freedom to worship the Old Gods drew Houses Vance and Tully into his rebellion, and ended up deciding who would rule the riverlands.
Chapter 1
The rebellion for the Old Gods

When King Humfrey I Teague began suppressing worship of the Old Gods across his lands, Roderick refused to submit and rose in arms against him. House Vance of Atranta and House Tully of Aguasdulces joined his rebellion.
The Faith Militant backed the king, and Roderick came close to defeat. He then sought help beyond the Trident: the Storm King Arlan III Durrandon, married to one of his daughters, agreed to intervene.
Chapter 2
The Battle of the Six Kings

Arlan III entered the war intending to place the riverlands under Blackwood rule, but Roderick died in the Battle of the Six Kings. His heir was an eight-year-old boy, and the king did not trust the fallen lord's brothers to rule in his name.
The river lords refused to accept Shiera, Roderick's eldest daughter, as their ruler because she was a woman. Faced with that refusal, Arlan III chose to annex the riverlands into his own kingdom.
