Betha Blackwood

Lady Betha was the daughter of the lord of Raventree Hall when she married Prince Aegon Targaryen in 220 AC. She was nineteen; he was twenty. It was a love match, and since the prince stood so far from the Iron Throne at the time, no one at court opposed it or thought much of it.

The marriage produced five children: the sons Duncan, Jaehaerys, and Daeron, and the daughters Shaera and Rhaelle.

When Aegon, by then king under the name Aegon V, chose to break with the Targaryen custom of marrying siblings to each other — convinced that such unions did more harm than good — it was Betha who helped him arrange other matches. In 237 AC their children, still young, were betrothed to the sons and daughters of the realm's most powerful lords, in hopes of winning their support for the reign's reforms.

None of those betrothals ever came to pass: Betha's children proved just as stubborn as she was, a woman described as strong-willed, with eyes and hair as dark as raven feathers, which earned her the nickname Betha the Black.

Whether Betha was still alive when the Tragedy of Summerhall struck is not known.
