Morghul
On this tab
Morghul was the dragon of princess Jaehaera Targaryen, likely hatched from an egg placed by her cradle at birth, following the custom of her house. He spent nearly his whole life inside the Dragonpit, in King's Landing, and no one ever rode him.
His story is tied to the chaos that gripped the capital during the Dance of the Dragons, when the city changed hands and fear took hold of its streets. Though he never flew to war, Morghul became part of the memory of those years of fire across the Seven Kingdoms.
Early Years
Morghul is thought to have hatched from an egg placed at Jaehaera Targaryen's cradle soon after her birth, following the custom of her line. He grew afterward inside the Dragonpit, the usual shelter for royal hatchlings in King's Landing.
He was still there when the Dance of the Dragons set Greens and Blacks against each other. The city eventually fell to the Blacks, and Jaehaera fled the capital, but the young dragon remained behind, shut inside his pit.

Storming of the Dragonpit
With the city gripped by hunger and panic after the fall, a mob stormed the Dragonpit. Chained and unable to fight freely, Morghul killed several dozen attackers before he was brought down.
A man remembered as the Burning Knight was the one who killed him: he charged the beast with a spear and drove it into one of its eyes again and again, even as the dragon's flames consumed him inside his own armor.
