Stormcloud
Borrasca
Stormcloud was the dragon of Aegon Targaryen's boyhood, the young prince tested by the Dance of the Dragons before he turned ten. Hatched from an egg left by his cradle, he grew turquoise scales and black horns, still too small for a grown rider when war reached the royal family.
It was in that war, fleeing an attack at sea, that Aegon rode his own dragon for the first time.
Chapter 1
An egg in the cradle
Books only
When Prince Aegon was born, a dragon's egg was placed in his cradle, as was customary for children of the royal house. From that egg came the hatchling named Stormcloud.
Over the years the animal grew turquoise scales and black horns and claws — details drawn from George R. R. Martin's own notes rather than the published text — though he was barely large enough to carry a child.
When the dynastic war known as the Dance of the Dragons broke out, Aegon was nine years old and had never yet climbed onto his dragon's back.
Chapter 2
The flight from Marcaderiva
130 ACBooks only
Princes Aegon and Viserys were being escorted toward Pentos to escape the war when a Triarchy fleet under Sharako Lohar fell upon them as it raided Marcaderiva.
Viserys was taken prisoner, but Aegon got away by climbing onto Stormcloud for the first time.
Crossbow bolts and a war scorpion struck the dragon; one bolt drove clean through his neck. Wounded, he still managed to fly on to Dragonstone, where he died an hour after landing, in 130 AC.
Aegon III never climbed onto a dragon's back again for the rest of his life.
