Shrykos
Shrykos was the she-dragon of Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen, son of Aegon II and twin brother of Jaehaera. As was Targaryen custom, she had hatched from an egg placed beside the prince's cradle, and she nested in the Dragonpit of King's Landing when the city was drawn into the Dance of the Dragons.
Her coppery scales marked her among the younger beasts housed beneath Rhaenys's Hill, bonded to no rider but the child she was meant for.
Chapter 1
The egg by the cradle
Books only
Shrykos, like every dragon born beside a scion of the royal house, most likely hatched from an egg set next to the cradle of Jaehaerys, son of Aegon II and Helaena and twin of Jaehaera.
She nested in the Dragonpit of King's Landing when the Dance of the Dragons broke out, and she remained there even after the city fell to the Blacks and Jaehaera fled the court.
Chapter 2
The Dragonpit riot
130 ACBooks only
In 130 AC the city rose against the dragons nesting in the Dragonpit, driven by the fear and helplessness the capital's fall had left behind. The mob climbed Rhaenys's Hill and attacked the beasts like ants; cornered, Shrykos killed dozens of her attackers before she was overwhelmed.
A woodcutter named Hobb the Hewer managed to climb onto her back and grip her neck. Shrykos twisted and roared to throw him off, but the man held on and struck seven axe blows, naming one of the Seven with each. The seventh, for the Stranger, cut through scale and bone and split her skull.
