Tessarion

No record survives of when Tessarion was born, or of how her bond with Daeron Targaryen began. By 120 AC prince and dragon were already linked, though he had not yet dared to ride her: both were still young. At the time Daeron served as a squire in Oldtown under Lord Ormund Hightower, and Tessarion stayed there with him, far from court.

When the war between Rhaenyra's supporters and Aegon II's reached Oldtown's gates, Daeron waited no longer. He rode Tessarion into the battle of the Honeywine to save Lord Hightower, and her arrival turned the fight. He was knighted on the field that same day.

With Tessarion flying ahead, Lord Hightower's army stopped meeting resistance. Goldengrove, Old Oak and the Shield Islands surrendered one after another; more than one lord chose to bend the knee rather than find out what that blue dragon could do to his walls.

Daeron flew ahead of the column, scouting the ground and reporting enemy movements before the infantry reached them. Tessarion's reputation travelled faster than she did: the mere sight of her in the sky was enough to make some garrisons give up any thought of resistance.

The advance brought Hightower's host to Tumbleton, the last stronghold before King's Landing. The blacks had sent two dragons there, Vermithor and Silverwing, ridden by Hugh Hammer and Ulf the White. Tessarion was held in reserve behind the green lines while the city's fate was decided.

She never had to act. No sooner had Hammer and Ulf taken flight than they turned on their own side, setting their dragons against Tumbleton itself. The city burned under the fire of the men meant to defend it, while Tessarion did no more than finish off the troops left outside the walls. Once the slaughter ended, Hightower's army lingered among the ruins, now with three dragons at its service, weighing its next move.

Addam Velaryon arrived later, riding Seasmoke, and found Tessarion in the sky above Tumbleton. The two young dragons fought on even terms for a long while, neither gaining the upper hand.

Everything changed when Seasmoke struck at Vermithor. All three dragons ended up locked in a single, deadly fight, and Tessarion came out of it badly wounded. She tried three times to take flight again and failed. By nightfall she was still on the ground, in pain, and Lord Benjicot Blackwood ordered his archer Billy Burley to finish her. Three arrows to one eye were enough.
