House Qorgyle of Sandstone

House Qorgyle was founded during the Andal Invasion, when its founders staked out a stretch of desert nobody else wanted to contest.

They settled among the dunes, in the driest heart of Dorne, and raised Sandstone over the only well for fifty leagues around. That single fortification was enough to put them astride any route a desert traveler would sooner or later have to cross.

When Nymeria landed with her people and upended the balance of power in Dorne, the Qorgyles were not on the side that won. As bannermen of House Yronwood, they followed their lord, King Yorick V, to war against the newcomer and against House Martell, who had taken her in.

Dornish letters later gathered in Red Sands, a work by Maester Gareth, name a Lord Qorgyle as the one who planned the killing of Lord Lyonel Tyrell. No record survives of his reasons.

One guess is that he meant to end a show of loyalty he could no longer stomach; another is that the betrayal was planned from the start, together with his castellan, aimed at both Tyrell and the king they both claimed to serve. Neither version can be taken as certain.
