House Jordayne of the Tor
Casa Jordayne de Tor
House Jordayne of the Tor is one of the great noble houses of Dorne, sworn to House Martell and holding the castle of the Tor on the coast of the Sea of Dorne. Its words, 'Let it be Written', and the golden quill on its arms mark it out as a house that sees itself as keeper of the region's written memory.
Its line reaches back to long before the Martells ever ruled Dorne, making it one of the oldest lineages in the region.
Chapter 1
From kings to vassals
Books only
House Jordayne traces back to the Andal Invasion, in a Dorne not yet ruled by the Martells. The chronicles remember it as a house of kings, one so powerful in those days that the Martells themselves once bowed before it.
Over the centuries that power reversed. Before Princess Nymeria crossed the Sea of Dorne with her people, the Jordaynes already served as vassals to House Yronwood, and it was under that banner that they took up arms, fighting alongside King Yorick V Yronwood in his war against Nymeria and against Lord Mors Martell.
