Amos Bracken

In 112 AC, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen traveled through the Trident in search of a husband, and several lords and knights of the region fought one another for the honor of courting her. Ser Amos Bracken, son of the lord of Stone Hedge, faced Samwell Blackwood, heir to the house holding the other bank of the river, in a duel, and won.

Neither Amos nor any of the other suitors ultimately won the princess's hand. The duel nonetheless stood as one more episode in the long rivalry between House Bracken and House Blackwood, two houses that had spent generations contesting supremacy in the Riverlands.

When the Dance of the Dragons broke out, House Bracken sided with the Greens, while House Blackwood, its neighbor and longtime rival, declared for the Blacks. The old feud between the two families became part of the civil war splitting the Targaryens.

At the Battle of the Burned Mill, Ser Amos killed Lord Samwell Blackwood, the same man he had defeated in the duel years before. He himself fell soon after, mortally wounded by an arrow shot by Alysanne Blackwood.

After the defeat, his half-brother Ser Raylon Rivers led the surviving Brackens back to Stone Hedge. By then, Prince Daemon Targaryen had already stormed the castle and taken captive the kinsmen of Amos who remained there.
