Raylon Bracken
Raylon Bracken is the heir to Stone Hedge, eldest son of Lord Amos Bracken. His house rules part of the Riverlands and carries an old rivalry with the Blackwoods of Raventree Hall.
The Dance of the Dragons puts that rivalry to the test, and Raylon finds himself at his father's side through the choices that put Stone Hedge's future at stake.
Chapter 1
His father's allegiance
Show only
Raylon is the eldest son of Lord Amos Bracken, lord of Stone Hedge. When the Dance of the Dragons breaks out, word of the murder of Prince Jaehaerys Targaryen pushes Amos to declare for King Aegon II.
Around the same time, the border between Bracken and Blackwood land turns into a flashpoint: his cousin Ser Aeron Bracken clashes with Davos Blackwood over where the line runs, and the fight ends in a bloody battle.
Chapter 2
Daemon's ultimatum
Show only
Raylon goes with his father and other knights of the house to a parley near Stone Hedge with Ser Willem Blackwood, ruling Raventree Hall as regent. Prince Daemon appears there, allied with the Blackwoods, and demands the Brackens abandon Aegon II and kneel to Rhaenyra, threatening to wipe out the house if they refuse.
Amos, who despises the Blackwoods, refuses, and he and Raylon ride off with their men. Daemon answers by letting Willem raid Bracken lands, and a long campaign of terror against their people eventually forces father and son to surrender.
Chapter 3
Prisoners at Harrenhal
Show only
Ser Willem marches Raylon and Amos as prisoners to Harrenhal, where Lord Oscar Tully, the new lord of Riverrun, has gathered his bannermen. In the castle's godswood, Willem presents them as traitors, but the river lords see the treachery in Willem himself.
Raylon watches Ser Oscar have Willem seized and force Daemon to execute him for what he did to House Bracken. The remaining Bracken forces are still at Harrenhal when Queen Rhaenyra arrives there on her dragon Syrax; everything suggests Raylon and his father are freed and pardoned, though the account never confirms it outright.
