Humfrey Bracken
Humfrey Bracken was the lord of Stone Hedge during the Dance of the Dragons, head of House Bracken at a time when the war split the great lords of the Redfork between Greens and Blacks.
His house's old rivalry with the Blackwoods, longtime neighbours and enemies, became bound up in that civil war for the Iron Throne.
Chapter 1
The Greens of Stone Hedge
When the Dance of the Dragons broke out, Humfrey Bracken, lord of Stone Hedge, brought his house behind the Greens. The Blackwoods, his longtime neighbours and rivals, took the opposite side and declared for the Blacks, so the feud between the two Redfork houses became tied to the war for the Iron Throne.
Chapter 2
The Battle of the Burning Mill and the fall of Stone Hedge
At the Battle of the Burning Mill, Humfrey's son Ser Amos Bracken and Lord Samwell Blackwood were both killed. After the defeat, Ser Raylon Rivers, Amos's bastard half-brother, led the surviving Brackens back to Stone Hedge.
Prince Daemon Targaryen seized the chance to attack the castle and took Lord Humfrey, his remaining children, his third wife, and his mistress prisoner. To save their lives, Raylon surrendered to Daemon.
Chapter 3
The turn to the Blacks
After Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen's death, King Aegon II set about punishing the lords who had opposed him. Facing that reprisal, Lord Humfrey joined the large body of former Blacks who gathered around Lord Elmo Tully.
