Morden II Durrandon
Morden II Durrandon was King of the Storm and head of House Durrandon in one of the kingdom's last generations before the Targaryen conquest. His rule is remembered less for anything he did himself than for the shadow of his bastard half-brother, Ronard Storm, whom he raised to castellan and who would go on to eclipse him entirely.
Chapter 1
The castellan who truly ruled
Books only
During Morden II's years as king, House Durrandon left its decline behind and recovered some of its former shine. Much of that turn was owed to Ronard Storm, his bastard half-brother, whom he appointed castellan of the realm.
Ronard proved a feared and capable warrior, and soon ruled in practice even as the throne remained Morden's in name. He sealed his position by marrying the king's own sister.
Chapter 2
The crown the queen placed
Books only
Within just five years, Ronard made good on what his office already implied: he usurped Morden's place as king. It was the queen herself, Morden's wife, who set the crown upon his head.
Songs add that the queen also shared Ronard's bed, though the material leaves this as rumor rather than established fact. Morden, thought harmless, ended up confined to a cell in a tower.
