House Tallhart of Torrhen's Square

When Eddard Stark suspects the Lannisters were behind the attempt on Bran's life, he has Catelyn write to Ser Helman Tallhart and Galbart Glover: he wants a hundred archers and Moat Cailin fortified.

Tallhart banners fly at Winterfell when Robb calls the northern lords after his father's arrest in King's Landing; Bran spots them among the crowd. Helman is among the first to pay his respects to Catelyn when she reaches the Moat Cailin camp.

Robb puts him in charge of four hundred archers and swordsmen left behind at the Twins, tasked with strengthening the castle's defenses and keeping an eye on Lord Walder Frey.

Leobald Tallhart, married to a sister of the late Lord Halys Hornwood, begins to see his son Beren as a possible heir to those lands. Meanwhile his nephew Benfred gathers a band of young riders and rides through the countryside wearing rabbit skins, playing at being the Young Wolf.

Leobald sends him to face raiders on the Stony Shore who turn out to be ironmen under Theon Greyjoy. Benfred is captured in the assault and drowned, under the eye of Aeron Greyjoy.

On Edmure Tully's orders, Helman leaves his post at the Twins to help Roose Bolton take Harrenhal.

Word later reaches Bolton that Helman has captured Darry, the Lannister garrison having surrendered. The reply, given in King Robb's name, is blunt: the prisoners are to be executed and the castle burned.

Helman is then ordered to join Robett Glover in an attack on Duskendale.

At Torrhen's Square, Leobald and his men beat back an ironborn attack. With the castle safe, he joins Ser Rodrik Cassel in an attempt to wrest Winterfell from Theon Greyjoy.

The attempt costs him his life: he dies in the battle for Winterfell at the hands of the Dreadfort garrison. His body is delivered to Theon as a gift, a gesture from Ramsay Snow.

Helman dies in the Battle of Duskendale. With Torrhen's Square left without its lord, Dagmer seizes the chance to take it.

The men the house had left with the Freys at the Twins fare no better: they die in the slaughter of the Red Wedding.

From the Wall, Maester Aemon sends a raven to Torrhen's Square asking for help to defend Castle Black against the Free Folk.

The ironborn lose Moat Cailin and Deepwood Motte, but Torrhen's Square remains in Dagmer's hands.

The house's remaining men present themselves to Roose Bolton, the new Warden of the North, at Winterfell, though he isn't sure their loyalty can be trusted.

The survivors of the Battle of Winterfell choose another side: they join King Stannis Baratheon after the recapture of Deepwood Motte.
