Darry
Darry is the seat of House Darry, a modest castle in the Riverlands, near Harrenhal, at the crossing between the Kingsroad and the Trident.
Its place along those roads made it a natural stopping point for travellers crossing the realm, and later a prize fought over in wartime.
Chapter 1
A castle with no place on the map
Books only
No official map marks the exact position of Darry, though the accounts repeatedly place it near Harrenhal, close to where the Kingsroad meets the Trident, not far from Ruby Ford. It is an old castle, though a modest one in size.
The lords of the house keep their chambers in the main keep: the lord's bedchamber looks out over the godswood, and the lady's lies on the far side of a servant's cell. The hall is narrow, so much so that the trestle tables are stacked against the walls when there is no feast. Near the inner hall stands the sept, a windowless seven-sided wooden structure with carved doors and a tiled roof.
Chapter 2
The dragon's fire
Books only
Prince Aemond Targaryen descended on Darry riding Vhagar to punish its lord for backing Princess Rhaenyra's claim to the throne. The attack killed Lord Darry, his heir, and many of his men; only his wife and younger son survived, hidden in the vaults beneath the castle.
After the war ended, Ser Regis Groves and Ser Damon Darry left the castle with a hundred men to drive off the outlaws who had settled in Harrenhal. Their confidence cost them dearly: only thirty-three made it back to Darry.
Chapter 3
A stop on the road back
298 ACBooks only
When King Robert's retinue was heading back south after offering Ned Stark the post of Hand of the King, it stopped to rest at Darry. On the way north, Tyrion Lannister had come across the tapestries of the Targaryen kings that someone had taken down and hidden in the cellars during a previous royal visit to the castle.
At Darry the party also searched for Arya Stark, who had gone missing after a clash with Prince Joffrey near the Trident. It was there, too, that Ned Stark killed Lady, Sansa's direwolf.
Chapter 4
The War of the Five Kings comes to Darry
299 ACBooks only
When the War of the Five Kings broke out, House Lannister seized Darry. The Darrys took it back soon after, but their victory lasted barely a couple of weeks: Ser Gregor Clegane fell upon the castle and put its defenders to the sword, among them Lyman Darry, the last male of his line.
On Lord Roose Bolton's orders, men of House Tallhart later retook Darry after a brief siege and set the castle ablaze.
Chapter 5
The house fills again
300 ACBooks only
Lancel Lannister became Lord of Darry through his marriage to Amerei Frey, daughter of Merrett Frey and Mariya Darry. Under him the castle's lands were resettled and worked again, after a war in which Darry had changed hands several times, burned once, and been sacked twice.
The physical world
El Castillo Darry, aunque viejo, es un castillo relativamente pequeño. No se conoce la ubicación del castillo Darry, que no aparece en los mapas oficiales ni se ha informado por fuentes canónicas.
