Jaehaerys Targaryen son of Aerys II

Not to be confused with Jaehaerys Targaryen.

Jaehaerys Targaryen was the fourth son of King Aerys II Targaryen and his sister-wife, Queen Rhaella. He was born and died in the same year, 274 AC, and what little is remembered of him has to do with what his death set off in his father.

The boy's death pushed Aerys II into a string of accusations and punishments that shows, years before the king became infamous, just how far his mind had already begun to slip.

In this chapterAerys II Targaryen

Jaehaerys was born in 274 AC, the fourth son Queen Rhaella had given her brother and husband. Aerys II took the news with such joy that, for a while, he seemed to become the man he had once been.

The happiness did not last the year: the prince died while still a baby. Aerys sank into despair and looked for someone to blame; he decided the boy's wet nurse had killed him and had her beheaded.

Not long after, he changed his story. He accused a lover of the prince — the young, pretty daughter of one of his knights — of poisoning him, and had the girl and her whole family tortured into confessing, though no two accounts of it matched.
