Last Hearth

Last Hearth was not always the seat of a vassal house. Back in the Age of Heroes, when the Umbers ruled as kings in their own right, the castle served as their royal seat.

In 170 AC a tourney held at the castle turned into a slaughter, leaving nearly twenty men dead in the lists.

Nothing in the record explains what triggered it or who called it — only the body count that followed.

During the War of the Five Kings, the Greatjon was away from home and left the castle in the hands of his uncles, Mors and Hother Umber, as castellans.

The pair rode to Winterfell to ask Brandon Stark for more men — hands for the harvest, and swords to hold off the wildlings coming down from the Bay of Seals.

Later, Maester Aemon sent a raven to Last Hearth asking for help to defend Castle Black, as wildlings threatened the Wall.
