Jon Umber Smalljon
Pequeño Jon Umber
Not to be confused with Jon Umber (Greatjon) · Jon Umber (husband of Serena Stark).
Smalljon Umber is the eldest son of Greatjon Umber and heir to Last Hearth, his house's stronghold in the far north of the Seven Kingdoms. His nickname hides a family joke: he shares his father's name to tell them apart, and still ends up standing a head taller than him.
When war for the Iron Throne breaks out, he becomes one of the thirty highborn warriors chosen to form the personal guard of Robb Stark, the young lord of Winterfell.
Chapter 1
The guard of thirty
When war breaks out, Robb Stark gathers thirty sons of the great northern houses to guard him in battle, and the Smalljon is one of them. The nickname he has carried since childhood no longer fits: he stands a head taller than his father and tops seven feet, with the same bulk that made Greatjon Umber famous.
Fighting within that guard, he takes part in the battle of the Whispering Wood.
Chapter 2
The assault on Oxcross
the Smalljon follows Robb into the invasion of the Westerlands, the offensive that carries the war into the heart of House Lannister's domains.
At the battle of Oxcross he scales the walls alongside Walder Frey the Black while Robb attacks the main gates on the other side.
Chapter 3
The table against the crossbows
299 AC
At the Red Wedding, as Walder Frey's men turn on their northern guests, the Smalljon tries to shield his king: he throws a table over the wounded Robb to stop the crossbow bolts aimed at him.
He dies there at the hands of men from the Dreadfort, beheaded.
