Amerei Frey
Amerei Frey, known as Ami Gatehouse, is the eldest daughter of Merrett Frey and Mariya Darry. Born at the Twins, her life has been shaped by the marriages her family arranged for her.
She was first married to a landless knight, then, after the Red Wedding, to a Lannister. Neither marriage was for love.
Chapter 1
Married in shame, widowed by war
Books only
As a young woman, Amerei was caught in the stables at the Twins with three men at once. Her parents, Merrett Frey and Mariya Darry, quickly married her off to Pate of the Blue Fork, a knight of humble birth; his cousin, Tom of Sevenstreams, sang at the wedding.
During the War of the Five Kings, Ser Gregor Clegane killed Pate, and Amerei returned to the Twins a widow. Soon after, she was one of the Frey women presented to Robb Stark when he came to the castle for Edmure Tully's wedding.
Chapter 2
A Lannister for Darry
Books only
After the Red Wedding, Ser Kevan Lannister married his son Lancel, the new Lord of Darry, to Amerei to seal the Freys' change of allegiance. The match also strengthened Lancel's claim to Darry, since Amerei's mother came from House Darry.
Lancel, though, had given himself over to the Faith of the Seven, and showed no interest in either his wife or the lordship he had inherited.
Chapter 3
The feast at Darry
Books only
When Ser Jaime Lannister's knights visited Darry, Amerei held a feast in their honor and wept over the murder of her father, Merrett Frey, at outlaws' hands. Ser Harwyn Plumm, commander of the garrison, promised her the head of their leader, Lord Beric Dondarrion.
Amerei tried to persuade Jaime to stay and defend Darry, and got Ser Lyle Crakehall to agree to hunt the outlaws once the siege of Riverrun was over. Jaime warned Lancel that his wife seemed drawn to Harwyn, but Lancel did not care: he meant to give up both his lordship and his unconsummated marriage to join the reborn Warrior's Sons.
When Jaime left, Amerei wept over the end of her marriage while Lyle Crakehall consoled her, and Jaime noticed the angry looks from her family. During the siege of Riverrun, Ser Daven Lannister told Jaime the story behind Amerei's nickname — he believed she had slept with Black Walder — and Genna Lannister suggested that Lancel's younger brother, Martyn, might marry her instead.
