Shaera Targaryen

Shaera was born in 226, the eldest of the daughters of the then-prince Aegon Targaryen and Betha Blackwood. When her father inherited the throne, he chose to break with the custom of pairing brothers and sisters to keep the Valyrian bloodline pure, convinced that such unions had done his family more harm than good. With Queen Betha's support, he sought to marry his children into the great houses of the realm in exchange for their backing of his reforms. That is how, in 237 AC, while still children, Shaera was betrothed to Luthor Tyrell, heir to Highgarden.

Her brother Jaehaerys never accepted the match: he had long been in love with her and felt his place was at her side, a feeling Shaera returned. Their parents tried to keep them apart, but the watching only hardened what they meant to prevent.

In 240 AC, a year after their elder brother Duncan gave up his claim to the throne to marry a commoner, Jaehaerys and Shaera slipped past their guards and married without their parents' consent. He was fifteen; she was fourteen.

By the time Aegon V learned of it, the marriage had already been consummated and there was no room left to undo it, so the king had no choice but to accept it.

Their marriage produced two children, Prince Aerys and Princess Rhaella. On the counsel of a woods witch close to Jenny of Oldstones, Jaehaerys decided that his own children should marry each other. Aegon V, by then king, chose not to oppose it, though the decision weighed on him.

It is not known when Shaera died, but she is recorded as still alive in 260 AC, during the War of the Ninepenny Kings, remaining in King's Landing alongside Jaehaerys, by then king himself.
