Maegor Targaryen

Maegor Targaryen was the only son of Prince Aerion Targaryen and Princess Daenora Targaryen, born into House Targaryen in 232 AC. He shared his name with one of the dynasty's earliest kings, a name that would weigh on him before he could speak for himself.

His is the story of a prince who never came to matter in the affairs of the crown, set aside from the succession almost from the moment he was born.

Chapter 1

A birth and a death

232 ACBooks only

In this chapterAerion Targaryen

Maegor was born in 232 AC, the only child of Prince Aerion Targaryen and Princess Daenora Targaryen, his cousin. Before he turned one, his father was dead, and the young prince grew up never having known him.

He was given the name of an ancestor the Seven Kingdoms did not remember fondly: Maegor the Cruel. That name, joined to the blood of a father many held to be mad, became a burden Maegor carried from the cradle.

Chapter 2

Set aside at the Great Council

233 ACBooks only

In 233 AC, a year after his birth, the succession of the Seven Kingdoms was debated at a Great Council. Maegor was left out of that debate: it was feared he might have inherited his father's madness, and that fear alone was enough to set him aside.

Others held his name against him too, too close to that of a king remembered for his cruelty. In time, the prince stopped being mentioned in matters of succession at all, and nothing more was heard of him — not where he went, not whether he lived on, not how or when he died, if indeed he ever did.
