Kermit Tully

Kermit was born in 112 AC, the eldest son of Ser Elmo Tully, and grew up with a younger brother, Oscar. The war reached Riverrun when old Lord Grover Tully died shortly after the second battle of Ladera and Elmo took his place; but the new lord survived barely forty-nine days longer, and the title fell to Kermit, not yet twenty years old.

The young lord took command of the Trident's forces for Queen Rhaenyra and her son, the future Aegon III. At the Battle of the Kingsroad, the war's last great battle, his troops held firm against the charge of the stormlander army led by Lord Borros Baratheon. When the battle turned against the greens, Kermit met Borros and demanded his surrender; instead Borros charged him, and it was Kermit who killed the Lord of Storm's End with his morningstar.

With Borros defeated, King Aegon II feared the approach of Kermit's army, and the dowager queen Alicent Hightower even suggested sending the Trident the severed ear of Prince Aegon; the king died of poison that same day, before the plan could be carried out. When Kermit's host reached King's Landing, Lord Corlys Velaryon and Prince Aegon himself received them with honors, and Kermit paid homage to the boy as the new king.

Kermit, his brother Oscar, and Lord Benjicot Blackwood had proven themselves the true leaders of the Trident's forces despite their youth, and the war left them bound together for good: they soon became known as the Boys, with Lady Alysanne Blackwood among their staunchest supporters.

When Lord Cregan Stark reached the capital determined to press the war on to Casterly Rock and Storm's End, Kermit objected, believing the Baratheons no longer had the strength to resist. He still agreed to add his troops to Cregan's march, until the peace overtures of Corlys Velaryon and the arrival of Lady Jeyne Arryn, who added her voice to Kermit's, persuaded Cregan to stand down.

Despite his weight in the war, Kermit was left off the council of regents formed to rule in young Aegon III's name, something Septon Eustace claims did not seem to trouble him. Back at Riverrun, he was considered a possible match for Princess Baela Targaryen, and later opposed Lord Unwin Peake's scheme to marry his daughter to the king; Kermit's name was also briefly floated for Hand of the King, though his youth kept him from it.
