In this chapterEddard Stark

After the fall of the Red Keep and the death of King Aerys II Targaryen at Jaime Lannister's hand, Robert Baratheon was crowned King of the Seven Kingdoms at King's Landing. He came to that crown after the Battle of the Bells and the Battle of the Trident, backed openly by the Stark, Arryn, Tully and Lannister houses.

The coronation closed a war that had cost the life of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and much of the royal family. The lords who had risen with Robert, Jon Arryn and Eddard Stark among them, held up the newly won throne with their own houses.
