Edmyn Tully

When Aegon Targaryen marched into the riverlands, he found lords ready to turn on their own king. Harren the Black had forced them to build Harrenhal and stripped them of goods and materials in his hunger for gold, and they held him in neither loyalty nor love. Edmyn Tully, Lord of Riverrun, was the first to desert him: he raised his own banner over the castle and rode out with his knights and archers to join Aegon's host.

His example spread through the Trident, and one by one the river lords broke their oaths to Harren and threw in with Aegon. When the combined host laid siege to Harrenhal, Harren offered Edmyn's daughters as a prize to whoever slew Aegon's dragons. No one managed it, and the day after Harren burned inside his own castle along with all his line, Aegon accepted Edmyn's homage.

The king named him Lord Paramount of the Trident, the first Tully to hold that title, and the rest of the river lords swore fealty to both Aegon and Edmyn. Soon after, Lord Quenton Qoherys, the new lord of Harrenhal, married one of Edmyn's daughters.

When Orys Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End, stepped down as Hand of the King during the First Dornish War, Aegon called on Edmyn to take the office. It was the year 7 AC, and Lord Tully left Riverrun to serve the king at court.

Two years later, in 9 AC, his wife died in childbirth. Edmyn asked the king's leave to return to his children, who needed him more than the realm did, and resigned the post. Aegon replaced him with Lord Alton Celtigar.
